MPs from the right-wing Democrats for Strong Bulgaria have urged for the halt of Super Borovets project, which - they claim - would ruin two Bulgarian natural parks in the Rila Mountain.

In a letter sent to official institutions the party of former Prime Minister Ivan Kostov called on to government to withdraw the legal amendments pending for approval by the Parliament that concern the laws on protected areas and on biological versification.

The Super Borovets project, to spread on a vast area of the Rila Mountain and surrounding regions, envisions that land patches of the Central Rila Reserve and the Rila Natural Park are attached to the project.

The tabled amendments violate the principles of environment protection and enter into conflicts with the EU-accession engagements of Bulgaria, a press release of the DSB said.

The DSB statement is backed up by the USAID, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Bulgarian Association of Phytocentology, Bulgarian Alternative Tourism Association and many more ecological associations and NGOs.
